Greenville, S.C. – Continuing its efforts to provide customers with high-quality products that don’t break the bank, BI-LO announced the addition of Chef’s Catch fresh seafood to its line of seafood products.

Chef’s Catch includes a wide array of fresh, restaurant-quality seafood that comes pre-packaged ready to cook, including salmon fillets and steaks, tilapia, rainbow trout, steelhead trout, wild ocean perch, cod, haddock, flounder, sea scallops and bay scallops.

BI-LO is the only retailer in the Southeast to offer Chef’s Catch thanks to an exclusive partnership with North Coast Seafood, a fully integrated processor of line-caught, sustainably harvested premium seafood. The Boston and New Bedford, Mass., based company sells directly to more than 1,000 retailers and foodservice operators throughout North America, including numerous fine restaurants and hotels.

“The addition of Chef’s Catch gives BI-LO customers unsurpassed quality and a broad assortment of fresh, healthy seafood products at a competitive price,” said Stacey Couch, BI-LO’s director of meat and seafood. “Their unique harvesting and processing methods ensure we can continue providing everyday savings to our shoppers while allowing them to enjoy the finest seafood available for their families.”

Chef’s Catch seafood undergoes rigorous quality control during processing and shipping at North Coast’s two 50,000-square-foot facilities, which includes a specially designed shellfish purification system and on-site microbiological labs to ensure maximum freshness and food safety. North Coast Seafood is also a leader in sustainable seafood harvesting, fishing waters around the globe to ensure that populations of individual species aren’t threatened. Chef’s Catch products are line-caught to reduce threats to other marine species and maximize product quality and freshness.

“North Coast Seafood has long been committed to line-caught, sustainably harvested seafood from local fishermen in the United States, Canada, Norway and Iceland for more than 30 years,” said Rich Polins, vice president of sales at North Coast Seafood. “In addition, since 1980 North Coast Seafood has participated in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s voluntary seafood inspection program – which less than 1 percent of U.S. seafood processors do continuously –insuring all seafood is processed under continuous inspection.”

Chef’s Catch also features distinctive labeling and color-coded packaging for three different product varieties: fresh, never-frozen seafood in blue; previously frozen at sea in purple; and ready-to-cook seafood in orange, which includes a number of tasty marinated, coated and encrusted fish and shellfish.

“Chef’s Catch seafood products are specifically separated into distinct, recognizable color-coded categories to ensure shoppers that they know exactly what they are getting – whether it is fresh, previously frozen or ready-to-cook fish and shellfish,” Couch added.
